KPMG’s Jan Dawson enters business hall of fame

Monday, 21 June 2010

dawson_janThe accolades flowed last night as North Shore entrepreneurs Jan Dawson, chief executive of KPMG and Gary Monk were inducted to the prestigious Enterprise North Shore Hall of Fame.

Dawson and Monk were acknowledged in front of an audience of 150 peers, North Shore City councillors and past laureates who gathered at North Harbour Stadium to celebrate the pair's immense contribution to the community.

Dawson, chief executive of KPMG New Zealand, is a respected chartered accountant with over 25 years of audit experience with New Zealand and international companies.

Addressing the audience at last night's event Jan acknowledged: "It is a tremendous honour for me. I look at the people I stand with in the Enterprise North Shore Hall of Fame and I feel incredibly proud."

The evening's second laureate, Gary Monk has more than 30 years experience in the seafood industry and established Takapuna-based company Intersea Ltd in 1983.

He spoke of the need to encourage future generations to embrace their own business success: "We don't need any more lawyers, accountants and engineers. We need to encourage entrepreneurs, innovators and to inspire today's students."

While opening the evening, North Shore City Mayor Andrew Williams acknowledged the laureates as outstanding members of the community whose contributions stood them out from the crowd.

The Enterprise North Shore Hall Of Fame was established in 2004 to celebrate exemplary efforts in North Shore business and the community.

Laureates have had a positive impact on economic growth and business success and each embodies an entrepreneurial spirit and local mindedness.

Chairman of the board for Enterprise North Shore (ENS), Ian Watson values the role of the Hall of Fame.

"ENS's extensive local knowledge will continue to increase the prosperity of this region and contribute to a stronger new Auckland City. The Hall of Fame is a valuable tool to recognise the individuals who make a significant difference locally."

Past Hall Of Fame Laureates include Ralph Roberts, Jim and Geoff Smale, Stephen Tindall, Graeme Avery, David Levene, Peter Maire, Diane Forman, Peter Menzies, Ian Calderwood, David Charlesworth and Colin Harvey.
