The New Zealand Institute of Chartered Accountants (NZICA) has welcomed the official formation of the Financial Markets Authority (FMA).

"We are ready to roll up our sleeves and get on with our part of the partnership", said NZICA chief executive Terry McLaughlin.

NZICA is fully focussed on ensuring its auditors licensed under the new regime continue to provide high quality audit services to entities raising money from the public.

"We look forward to working with the FMA on finalising the finer details of the framework for co-regulation," says Mr McLaughlin.

Is NZICA able to do this now that it is planning to merge with the Australian Institute of Accountants (ICAA)? What safety is there for the NZ consumers? The NZICA seems to be falling apart with people being sacked all over the place. Is this really a trustworthy organisation?
